Third Wave Fund is a feminist, activist, fund led by young women of color, queer, and trans people under the age of 35. In the past 20 years, we have granted over $4.8 million to hundreds of groups who serve and are led by young people of color and people from poor and working class communities. Our grantees focus on a variety of interlocking causes including reproductive justice, transgender rights, racial justice, healthcare, and sex worker advocacy.
In short: Third Wave gets money to the people who know best how to get us free.
This has been a tough year for women, queer and trans people, and my heart has felt broken many times. Moving money to support gender justice gives me hope, makes me feel a part of a larger "we", and is a way of taking concrete action to destroy the systems that are oppressing us. I give to Third Wave because as a white ciswoman, I know that feminist organizations that focus on white women will never end patriarchy. And I really, really want us to end patriarchy.
Over $900K in our grantmaking dollars come from individual donors! It takes a whole community of us to do this, and every donation amount counts.
